Privacy policy
No accounts and no advertising trackers. We do run Google Tag Manager and analytics, and this page says exactly what that means.

The short version
- We do not ask you to create an account.
- We run Google Tag Manager, container ID GTM-PJ6DQG6J, which loads measurement tags from Google. This can set cookies and collect usage data. Details below.
- We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising tags.
- Fonts are served from this domain, not from a third-party font CDN.
- If you email us, we have your email. That is the only personal data we hold on purpose.
- Outbound retailer links may set their own cookies. That is on their side, and their policy applies.

Sometimes Gardening publishes gardening guides at sometimes-gardening.com. For any privacy question, contact info@sometimes-gardening.com.
What we collect
Server logs
Our hosting provider records standard technical request data, IP address, timestamp, URL requested, referrer, user agent, for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing errors. This is ordinary infrastructure logging, retained for a short period by the host and not used to build a profile of you.
Email you send us
The contact form on this site does not transmit anything to us. It composes a message in your own email client, which you then choose to send. If you send it, we hold that email , your address, your name if you gave it and the content, for as long as we need it to reply and to keep a record of corrections. You can ask us to delete it.
Analytics and Google Tag Manager
This site loads Google Tag Manager, container ID GTM-PJ6DQG6J. Tag Manager is a container: it does not itself measure anything, it loads the measurement tags we configure in it. In practice that means Google Analytics, so what is collected is what Google Analytics collects: pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser, how you arrived, and how you moved through the site.
Two things worth being straight about. Google is the processor here, not us, so their terms and their retention apply to that data, and it is processed on their infrastructure, which may be outside your country. And Tag Manager can load further tags without a code change on our side, so this page rather than the page source is where we will tell you if that list changes.
We do not run advertising or remarketing tags, we do not sell data, and analytics is loaded only on the live site. Preview and staging deployments do not load it at all.
If you would rather not be measured, any of these work: a browser or extension that blocks trackers, Google’s own Analytics opt-out add-on, or a private window.
Cookies
We set no cookies of our own. Google Analytics, loaded through Tag Manager, typically sets first-party cookies to tell repeat visits from new ones. These are measurement cookies rather than advertising cookies, and they do not follow you to other sites.
You will not currently see a consent banner. If you are in a jurisdiction that requires prior consent for analytics cookies and you would rather we asked first, tell us at info@sometimes-gardening.com and we will look at adding one, since this is exactly the sort of thing a small site gets wrong by default.
Third parties are a different matter. If you click an affiliate link to a retailer, that retailer will typically set a cookie recording that you arrived from us, so a resulting sale can be attributed. We never receive your name, address, payment details or order contents, only aggregate commission reports. See our affiliate disclosure.
Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)
- Legitimate interests, keeping the site secure and available, and replying to correspondence you initiate.
- Consent, if we ever add a newsletter, you will have opted in explicitly and can leave in one click.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port the personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO). Since the only personal data we normally hold is email correspondence, most requests are simple: email info@sometimes-gardening.com and we will action it, usually within a few days and always within a month.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Gardening with kids is very much encouraged; data collection is not.
Data transfers and security
The site is served over HTTPS from a global content delivery network, which means the page you are reading may have been served from a data centre outside your country. Content on this site is public by design. Email correspondence sits with our email provider under their security controls.
External links
We link out to retailers, extension services and other gardening resources. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, check their policies before handing over personal data.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, a new analytics provider, say, we will make that clear rather than slipping it in.
